Is Medicaid only for low-income adults?

There is a prevalent misconception that Medicaid only provides coverage for low-income families. While Medicaid does help families with lower-incomes, it also allows millions of residents across the United States each year.

According to research from the Colorado Health Institute and Colorado’s Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, Colorado only hit a high with 1 million enrollees in Medicaid programs in the state, which is only a fraction of the 66 million Americans enrolled in Medicaid alone.

Breaking misconceptions

One of the reasons why Medicaid is portrayed as a resource for “poverty” is because there is a limitation on the annual income enrollees have. It varies from state to state, but Colorado wants the maximum income level for a house of four to be $34,248 each year.

It will be considered low if both adults are working in a family home. However, if there is a single breadwinner in the family or one person has a disability, the funds are entirely within the average wage range for most working adults.

It’s also critical to not the Medicaid also provides coverage to children, pregnant women, seniors and individuals with disabilities. You don’t necessarily have to be a low-income earner to be able to take advantage of Medicaid and its benefits.

Luckily, it’s easy to check online with to see if you’re eligible for benefits. Then you can apply online and learn more about what the benefits entail for medical treatment across any age, health status or income level.

Don’t let misconceptions hold you back from getting the support you need. The right benefits could save you time and money in the long run.
